Live from The Fair - Philadelphia, MS July 25, 2015 at 8pm

Join us at the Neshoba County Fair (Mississippi’s Largest House Party) on July 25, 2015 at 8pm.  This performance of the Thacker Mountain Radio Hour will not be broadcast live, but recorded and rebroadcast later this summer.  The performance is free and open to the public (requires admission to the Neshoba County Fair – ticket information here).  The show will feature a reading by Jamie Kornegay (Soil) and music by Motel Mirrors, Charlie Mars, and The Krackerjacks and an hour long dance party afterward under the Founder’s Square Pavilion. The show is hosted by Jim Dees and our house band, The Yalobushwhackers fronted by the amazing John Paul Keith.

The Krackerjacks

For over 33 years, the Krackerjacks Band has performed for weddings, corporate events, college parties, country clubs and festivals throughout the Mid-South. The band specializes in classic horn-driven Motown, Stax and R&B favorites. Members include, Charlie Ross, Mike Dill, Steve Lewis, Mark Hudson, Randy McCormack, Nate Murphree, Ricky “Toad ” Johnson, Dave Clancy. Following their Thacker appearance, the Krackerjacks will remain on stage and give a full-length performance.

Charlie Mars

Charlie Mars’s newest CD is The Money (Rockingham Records/Thirty Tigers). His latest tour has included include stops in Austin, New York City, Minneapolis, and Toronto. His previous CDs include Like a Bird, Like a Plane (2009) and Blackberry Light (2012). Rolling Stone said of his music, “…big emotional rock from Mississippi… a knack for hooks, and the hooks here have real barbs: They tug at you and just might draw some blood.”

Oxford-based singer-songwriter, Mars, is a Laurel native who has deep roots in Neshoba County; for generations his family has maintained a Fair cabin on Founder’s Square.

Motel Mirrors

Motel Mirrors is a Memphis-based band featuring Amy LaVere (bass), Thacker front man John Paul Keith (guitar), and Shawn Zorn (drums). Their sound emulates the classic 1950s and ‘60s country duets of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. Their CD, Motel Mirrors is available from Archer Records.

Jamie Kornegay is author of the novel, Soil (Simon and Shuster), a dark comedy set in Lafayette County, Miss. about a farmer who is ruined by flood and descends into paranoia. The book has been called, “the Coen Brothers meets ‘Crime and Punishment’ with a Mississippi twist.” Publisher’s Weekly said, “Penetrating characterizations and a well-charted story bode well for future work from this author.” Kornegay is the owner of Turnrow Books in Greenwood. He and his wife Kelly have three children. Soil is his first novel.
