2018 Season Premiere at Off Square Books! New Orleans novelist Nathaniel Rich, Australian songwriter Harry Permezel and country-rockers Young Valley

The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour resumes live performances Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6 pm at Off Square Books at 129 Courthouse Square. Guests will include novelist Nathaniel Rich with Australian songwriter Harry Permezel and country rockers, Young Valley. Hosts of the show are Jim Dees and Thacker house band, the Yalobushwhackers. Nathaniel Rich

Nathaniel Rich is the author of King Zeno (MCD/Farrar Straus and Giroux). The novel is set in 1918 New Orleans amid the birth of jazz, a wave of Spanish flu, and an ax murderer on the loose. The lives of a traumatized cop, a conflicted Mafia matriarch, and a brilliant trumpeter all converge in this rich and sweeping story. Rich is the author of two previous novels: Odds Against Tomorrow and The Mayor’s Tongue and a book of non-fiction about film noir, San Francisco Noir: The City in Film Noir from 1940 to the Present. Rich lives in New Orleans.

Young Valley

Young Valley is a country music band from Jackson, MS. Their sound includes traditional country and southern-tinged rock. The debut CD, No Filter, was released in 2015. Their new CD, Young Valley, was recorded at Water Valley’s Dial Back Studios, and will be released this spring. Following their Thacker appearance, Young Valley will play a full set at Proud Larry’s at 9 pm.

Harry Permezel

Harry Permezel is a singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. His eponymous debut album was released in 2016 on Oxford-based Muscle Beach Records. His second CD, Weird and Wonderful Demos, was released last spring.
