Join us, Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6 pm at the Lyric Theatre (1006 Van Buren Ave, Oxford, MS 38655) for our annual food show in conjunction with the Southern Foodways Alliance. FREE admission. The public is invited. Guests will include chef/author Ashley Christensen, Memphis blues powerhouse, John Nemeth and Nashville songwriter, Paul Burch. Hosts: Jim Dees and our house band, The Yalobushwhackers.

Ashley Christensen

Ashley Christensen is a very accomplished chef and restaurateur in Raleigh, N.C. and now, author. Her first cookbook is Poole’s – Recipes and Stories from a Modern Diner (Ten Speed Press). It is named for her first restaurant, Poole’s Diner, which she opened in 2007. The book features tips and insights from her career and includes over 100 recipes.

In 2011, Ashley opened three new ventures: Beasley’s Chicken + Honey, an ode to fried chicken and classic Southern sides; Chuck’s, which offers burgers and frites; and Fox Liquor Bar, which boasts a menu of more than 50 craft cocktails, as well as beer, wine and bar snacks.

Joule Coffee + Table, located just down the block from Beasley’s and Chuck’s, opened in the fall of 2013. The spacious café features an extensive coffee menu, carefully prepared espresso drinks and pour-overs plus a casual all-day food menu and a full-service bar.

In the spring of 2015, Christensen’s AC Restaurants introduced Death & Taxes, a restaurant celebrating wood-fire cooking with Southern ingredients, and Bridge Club, a private events loft and cooking classroom. In 2014, Christensen won a James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Southeast.

Music

John Nemeth

John Nemeth is a soul/blues powerhouse harmonica player and vocalist. His latest CD is Feelin’ Freaky. His 2014 release, Memphis Grease, won the 2015 Best Soul Blues Album awarded by the Memphis Blues Foundation. This year he was nominated for the B.B. King Entertainer Award. His previous CDs include Soul Live, Blues Live and Name the Day. Nemeth lives in Memphis.

Paul Burch

Paul Burch is a Nashville songwriter and bandleader. His latest CD is Meridian Rising (Plowboy Records) a musical based on the life of Jimmie Rodgers. His musical collaborators include former Thacker guests, Jon Langford of the Mekons and Nashville guitarist, William Tyler and country music legends, Charlie Louvin and Ralph Stanley.

Burch’s previous CDs include Pan American Flash, Wire to Wire and Blue Notes. On Friday, Oct. 14, Paul Burch will perform at Proud Larry’s as the opening act for the Neckbones.
