Literary Guest:

Mary Miller

Mary Miller grew up in Jackson, Miss. and is the 2014-15 John and Renee Grisham Writer-in-Residence at Ole Miss. Her debut novel is The Last Days of California (Norton). The book follows fifteen-year-old Jess on a road trip to the end of the world. Her evangelical father has packed up the family and left their Montgomery, Alabama, home to drive west in anticipation of the Rapture, hoping to save as many souls as possible before the imminent Second Coming. The New York Times called it, “A terrific first novel,” and the book is a “Staff Pick” at Square Books. Miller’s previous book was the story collection, Big World.

Music:

Drew Holcomb

Drew Holcomb has been performing, recording and touring for the past ten years with his band, the Neighbors. Based out of East Nashville, their most recent CD is Medicine (Magnolia Records). Medicine centers on honest performances that range from introspective to full-on Springsteen-like heartland rock. For his Thacker appearance Holcomb will perform solo. Following Thacker, Holcomb and his band will perform at 8 pm at the Lyric Theatre.

Motel Mirrors

Motel Mirrors is a Memphis-based side-project of Amy LaVere (bass), new Thacker front man John Paul Keith (guitar), and Shawn Zorn (drums). Their sound emulates the classic 1950s and ‘60s country duets of George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. Their CD, Motel Mirrors is available from Archer Records. Following their Thacker appearance,  Motel Mirrors will play at Ajax Diner.
