Thacker News – Livingston Saturday show ‘rain or shine’

The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour, the award-winning music and literature show broadcast every Saturday night on Mississippi and Alabama public radio stations, is bringing its mix of books and bands to Livingston, MS for a live performance this Saturday, October 26 at 6 pm. The show will take place at The Lake at Livingston. Admission is $5 per carload and lawn chairs and coolers are welcome. Beer and wine will be available for sale and there is spacious free parking.

Livingston, MS is located eight miles from Interstate 55 at the intersection of Highways 463 and 22 in Madison County.

The one-hour show, featuring author Matthew Guinn, acoustic country group TB Ledford and the Accumulators and Damein Wash and his Soul Revue, will not be broadcast live but recorded for air on Saturday, Dec. 7. Hosts of the show are Jim Dees and Thacker house band, the Yalobushwhackers.

An after party featuring all the musical acts will follow the radio show beginning at 7 pm.

Current forecasts call for rain in the area Friday and Saturday. The show will go on, rain or shine. An indoor rain site has been designated as the space above The Briar Patch restaurant and bar located at 1150 Old Cedars Lane in “downtown” Livingston. (Listed as Flora, MS 39071).

Organizers hope the event can take place outdoors as planned but if forced indoors, the show will go on.

“We’re coming and we’re bringing it, says host Dees. “We’re really looking forward to seeing Livingston and hanging with old friends and making new ones.”

Author Guinn will offer a preview of his novel-in progress, The Skinning Shed, about swindlers in the Mississippi timber business. (Guinn’s previous books will be for sale on site by Lemuria). TB Ledford is known to spring a surprise or two with his band, including his three amazingly talented young daughters on guitar and fiddles. Damein Wash will channel his inner Otis Redding in front of an eight-piece soul band complete with horn section.

Thacker house band, the Yalobushwhackers, will open and close the show in their usual rocking style. (Beware a Steely Dan cover!).

The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour is based at Off Square Books in Oxford, MS but travels to 6-7 out-of-town shows per year including Tupelo, Oceans Springs and the Neshoba County Fair. This will be the show’s first trip to Livingston and final road show of 2019.

The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour is the recipient of a Mississippi Governor’s Award for Broadcast Excellence and a “Citation of Merit” from the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. The program celebrated 20 years on the air in 2017.
