Our fall season rolls on with one of the wildest books we’ve read this year, the musical debut of a novelist-turned-songwriter and our house band getting spooky/funky!
Author: Abbott Kahler – Eden Undone: A True Story of Sex, Murder, and Utopia at the Dawn of World War II
“A wickedly gothic tale… There’s a dash of Conrad. A bit of Hitchcock. Notes of Melville, Darwin and Robinson Crusoe – and certainly more than a whiff of Lord of the Flies.” — Hampton Sides
Music: Michael Farris Smith & The Smokes – Novelist-turned-songwriter debuts tunes from upcoming EP, Lostville, recorded in the wild, at Zebra Ranch. Don’t miss these memorable tunes performed by a crack band.

Abbott Kahler is the author of Eden Undone: A True Story of Sex, Murder, and Utopia at the Dawn of World War II (Crown).
The book is the incredible true story of Smithsonian scientists who, at the height of the Great Depression, stumbled upon a group of European exiles living in their own “civilization” in the Galapegos.
What was meant to be utopia, the scientists discovered, had turned to gothic chaos… and then some.
“There’s a dash of Conrad. A bit of Hitchcock. Notes of Melville, Darwin, and Robinson Crusoe—and certainly more than a whiff of Lord of the Flies. But really, Eden Undone is completely its own thing. Bizarre, mesmerizing, and compellingly tragic.” – Hampton Sides
Abbott Kahler, formerly writing as Karen Abbott, is the New York Times bestselling author of Sin in the Second City; American Rose; Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy; The Ghosts of Eden Park (Edgar Award finalist), and the novel, Where You End.
A native of Philadelphia, she lives in New York City and in Greenport, New York.
A special set of appropriately spooky grooves from our rockin’ house band, Paul Tate and the Yalobushwhackers, the “Best Live Radio Band in the Land.”
Novelist Michael Farris Smith (Salvage This World) debuts his songwriting career on live radio!
His first album of original music, the EP, Lostville, drops on Nov. 3. He and his band will preview the album on our Halloween show.
