Edited by Robin Miura, New Stories from the South (Blair Publishing), revives the popular story collection originally published from 1986 – 2010 by Algonquin.
The new book (endorsed by former editor Shannon Ravenel) gathers outstanding short stories written by Southern writers or about the Southern U.S.
Stories were nominated by editors of literary journals and magazines, publishers of short story collections, and by prominent Southern writers who served as contributing editors for this volume.
The 2026 edition contains an exciting lineup of well-known Southern writers such as Ron Rash, Deesha Philyaw, and Tony Earley, as well as talented newcomers such as Exodus Oktavia Brownlow (pictured) and A. J. Bermudez.
Trenton Ayers is a blues guitarist and vocalist from Holly Springs, MS.
He is perhaps best known for his work with Cedric Burnside with whom he has toured worldwide and been nominated for a Grammy.
Ayers now fronts his own band, Wolfeagle.
Trent is also featured prominently on the recent full length, Philadelphia Mississippi by G. Love.
Ayers is the son of “Little” Joe Ayers, a solo artist and longtime bassist for the late Junior Kimbrough.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Ga., Alex Huey’s songwriting is deeply rooted in southern folk music, “Nashville twang with an aftertaste of ‘90s style.”
After years performing, most notably with her band, Huey & The Heaven-sent, Huey has earned her props in the bustling Atlanta music scene.
Recent releases include the singles, Dueling Flame, Right in the Place I Left, Chimes and the four-song EP, Verity Demos.
Her second full-length LP is How to Keep Things Alive.
