Issac Fitzgerald is the author of the memoir, American Rambler – Walking the Trail of Johnny Appleseed (Knopf).
The book follows Fitzgerald as he sets out on foot (mostly) into the heart of America, following the path of the legendary Johnny Appleseed.
As a child, Isaac Fitzgerald was captivated by Johnny Appleseed, drawn to the legend by family ties, his father’s larger-than-life stories, and a shared restlessness to leave home and discover what lay beyond.
In American Rambler, he sets out on a year-long journey to follow Appleseed’s path, walking (okay, sometimes driving, and at one point, even floating downstream) from Massachusetts to Indiana.
On this journey, Fitzgerald turns a childhood fascination into a profound reckoning of loss and grief, ritual and faith, grimy gas station bathrooms and scenic apple picking. He is followed by a mysterious creature, camps in hostile environments, trespasses more than once, and is warmed by the generosity of strangers at every turn.
A moving blend of memoir, history, and travelogue, American Rambler is at once an ode to the American heartland, and a meditation on escaping the breakneck pace of modern life.

Issac Fitzgerald is the author of Dirtbag, Massachusetts (2022), a memoir-in-essays and New York Times bestseller about his tumultuous childhood.
Cannonball Red is Georgia-raised guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. His modern blues performances are in the vein of Gary Clark Jr. and Marcus King.
His latest single is with his band, The Head Hunters, “Put My Blues On You.”

Vitamin Cea is Charity Hicks, a songwriter originally from Gautier, MS on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Her releases include the five-song EP, What A Day, the album Cea Sick Saturday and the singles, The Guidance Fairy and My Skin Is Black.
In September 2024, Charity survived a devastating car accident that left her with shattered bones and months of grueling physical therapy.
