Author

Jenny Tinghui Zhang

Jenny Tinghui Zhang is the author Superfan (Flatiron), an examination of extreme celebrity worship, secrets and sense of self.

The novel follows Minnie, an adrift college freshman in Austin, Texas, who discovers a boy band called HOURglass and the online forums that worship them. Minnie pours everything into her new fandom.

When a scandal threatens to expose her favorite bandmember, Halo, to harm, she activates as the only one who can save him.

Of course, Halo has an even darker secret.

Superfan is about fandom in all its magic and its terror, and the extreme lengths we go to rid ourselves of loneliness.

“An earnest exploration of toxic fandom and coming of age.” — Kirkus

Jenny Tinghui Zhang is the author of the novels Superfan and Four Treasures of the Sky.

She is a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 honoree and has received support from Yaddo, Kundiman, VONA/Voices, and Tin House.
