Author

Robert Hicks

Robert Hicks is the New York Times bestselling author of the novels, The Widow of the South and A Separate Country. In The Widow of the South, Hicks told the unforgettable tale – based on a true story – of Carrie McGavock, the so-called “Widow of the South” who made it her mission during the Civil War to tend the graves of over 1,500 soldiers killed in the bloody battle of Franklin, Tennessee and buried on her plantation.

In his latest novel, The Orphan’s Mother (Grand Central Publishing) Hicks introduces readers to Mariah Reddick, Carrie’s former slave. Mariah is the town of Franklin’s midwife making her, in a sense, mother of all the town’s children. When her only true son is murdered, the trauma sets Mariah on her own mission of retribution and, ultimately, redemption.

Music

Michaela Anne

Upon releasing her 2014 album, Ease My Mind (Kingswood Records), singer-songwriter Michaela Anne garnered considerable acclaim for her introspective songwriting. The New York Times praised the “plain-spoken songs of romantic regret and small-town longing” and the Village Voice listed it among its Top 5 Country Albums of the year.

Her latest CD, Bright Lights and the Fame, was recorded in Nashville. A previously unreleased bonus track, “Where Will I Be Found,” (with Kenneth Pattengale of The Milk Carton Kids) was recently named one of NPR’s “Songs We Love.”

Following her Thacker appearance, Michaela will perform a full set at Shelter on Van Buren.

Ethan Crump

Ethan Crump is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter from Hartwell, Georgia. His newest five-song EP is Hellfire and Amazing Grace. Crump counts his family and songwriter, John Prine, as major influences. This July, Crump was named to the “Rookies on the Rise” list by No Depression magazine of their favorite emerging Americana artists.

Following his Thacker appearance, Ethan Crump will perform a full set at Shelter on Van Buren.
